The project DREAM is designed as a rights-based approach and an extensive reach out among lakhs of students and youth. The project is specifically focuses on children, especially teenagers and adolescents and youth, who can easily fall prey to drug abuse as they can’t resist the powerful, addictive pull of mind-alerting drugs. According to the Excise Department, the use of drugs, including highly potent chemical and narcotic drugs, is on the rise among school students in Kerala. In general, drug abuse can be seen among children from all income classes, hence, our target children belong to all these classes. But specifically, the project will focus on children in high risk and vulnerable groups who are coming from poor families or socially and economically backward community. About 70% of the children targeted under the project are from poor families living in the urban slums, coastal villages, and rural areas of 10 districts of Kerala state. Other direct beneficiaries of the project are the teachers at the schools and the parents of these children. They will also directly be addressed by the project through various training and other capacity-building initiatives.
